महामृत्युंजय जप मंत्र का विधान कैसे बना?
शिवजी के अनन्य भक्त मृकण्ड ऋषि संतानहीन होने के कारण दुखी थे. विधाता ने उन्हें संतान योग नहीं दिया था.
मृकण्ड ने सोचा कि महादेव संसार के सारे विधान बदल सकते हैं. इसलिए क्यों न भोलेनाथ को प्रसन्नकर यह विधान बदलवाया जाए.
मृकण्ड ने घोर तप किया. भोलेनाथ मृकण्ड के तप का कारण जानते थे इसलिए उन्होंने शीघ्र दर्शन न दिया लेकिन भक्त की भक्ति के आगे भोले झुक ही जाते हैं.
महादेव प्रसन्न हुए. उन्होंने ऋषि को कहा कि मैं विधान को बदलकर तुम्हें पुत्र का वरदान दे रहा हूं लेकिन इस वरदान के साथ हर्ष के साथ विषाद भी होगा.
भोलेनाथ के वरदान से मृकण्ड को पुत्र हुआ जिसका नाम मार्कण्डेय पड़ा. ज्योतिषियों ने मृकण्ड को बताया कि यह विलक्ष्ण बालक अल्पायु है. इसकी उम्र केवल 12 वर्ष है.
ऋषि का हर्ष विषाद में बदल गया. मृकण्ड ने अपनी पत्नी को आश्वत किया- जिस ईश्वर की कृपा से संतान हुई है वही भोले इसकी रक्षा करेंगे. भाग्य को बदल देना उनके लिए सरल कार्य है.
मार्कण्डेय बड़े होने लगे तो पिता ने उन्हें शिवमंत्र की दीक्षा दी. मार्कण्डेय की माता बालक के उम्र बढ़ने से चिंतित रहती थी. उन्होंने मार्कण्डेय को अल्पायु होने की बात बता दी.
मार्कण्डेय ने निश्चय किया कि माता-पिता के सुख के लिए उसी सदाशिव भगवान से दीर्घायु होने का वरदान लेंगे जिन्होंने जीवन दिया है. बारह वर्ष पूरे होने को आए थे.
मार्कण्डेय ने शिवजी की आराधना के लिए महामृत्युंजय मंत्र की रचना की और शिव मंदिर में बैठकर इसका अखंड जाप करने लगे.
“ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्।
उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान् मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात्॥”
समय पूरा होने पर यमदूत उन्हें लेने आए. यमदूतों ने देखा कि बालक महाकाल की आराधना कर रहा है तो उन्होंने थोड़ी देर प्रतीक्षा की. मार्केण्डेय ने अखंड जप का संकल्प लिया था.
यमदूतों का मार्केण्डेय को छूने का साहस न हुआ और लौट गए. उन्होंने यमराज को बताया कि वे बालक तक पहुंचने का साहस नहीं कर पाए.
इस पर यमराज ने कहा कि मृकण्ड के पुत्र को मैं स्वयं लेकर आऊंगा. यमराज मार्कण्डेय के पास पहुंच गए.
बालक मार्कण्डेय ने यमराज को देखा तो जोर-जोर से महामृत्युंजय मंत्र का जाप करते हुए शिवलिंग से लिपट गया.
यमराज ने बालक को शिवलिंग से खींचकर ले जाने की चेष्टा की तभी जोरदार हुंकार से मंदिर कांपने लगा. एक प्रचण्ड प्रकाश से यमराज की आंखें चुंधिया गईं.
शिवलिंग से स्वयं महाकाल प्रकट हो गए. उन्होंने हाथों में त्रिशूल लेकर यमराज को सावधान किया और पूछा तुमने मेरी साधना में लीन भक्त को खींचने का साहस कैसे किया?
यमराज महाकाल के प्रचंड रूप से कांपने लगे. उन्होंने कहा- प्रभु मैं आप का सेवक हूं. आपने ही जीवों से प्राण हरने का निष्ठुर कार्य मुझे सौंपा है.
भगवान चंद्रशेखर का क्रोध कुछ शांत हुआ तो बोले- मैं अपने भक्त की स्तुति से प्रसन्न हूं और मैंने इसे दीर्घायु होने का वरदान दिया है. तुम इसे नहीं ले जा सकते.
यम ने कहा- प्रभु आपकी आज्ञा सर्वोपरि है. मैं आपके भक्त मार्कण्डेय द्वारा रचित महामृत्युंजय का पाठ करने वाले को त्रास नहीं दूंगा.
महाकाल की कृपा से मार्केण्डेय दीर्घायु हो गए. उनके द्वारा रचित महामृत्युंजय मंत्र काल को भी परास्त करता है. सोमवार को महामृत्युंजय का पाठ करने से शिवजी की कृपा होती है और कई असाध्य रोगों, मानसिक वेदना से राहत मिलती है। महामृत्युंजय मंत्र के बारे में जानने और इसका नित्य पाठ श्ररावण व जप करने से दीर्घायु एवं आरोग्य मिलता है और घोर कष्टों का अंत हो जाता है। ॐ नम: शिवाय

When Markandey started growing up, the father gave him the initiation of Shiva Mantra. Markandey’s mother was worried about the child’s aging. He told Markandeya of being short-lived.
Markandey decided that for the happiness of the parents, the same Sadashiva would boast of longevity to the God who gave life. Twelve years had come to be fulfilled.
Markandeya composed the Mahamrityunjaya mantra for Shiva’s worship and sitting in the Shiva temple began to chant its monotonous chant.
“Trimbak Yajamhe Sugandhi Puthivivradhanam.
Urvorukmiv Bandhanan is the dead body. ”
When the time came, the eunuch came to take them. When the young men saw that the child is worshiping Mahakal, they waited for a while. Markandeya took the pledge of unbroken chant.
The young men did not have the courage to touch the Markandey and returned. He told Yama that he could not dare to reach the child.
On this Yamraj said that I will bring the son of Murakand myself. Yamraj reached to Markandeya.
When Babar Markandey saw Yamraj, he chanting the mantra of Mahamrityunjaya with loud emphasis on Shivling.
The Yamraj tried to drag the boy from Shivalinga but only then the temple shook with tremendous humor. Yumraj’s eyes were shrouded with a tremendous light.
Shivalinga itself appeared the Mahakal. He took a trident in his hands and warned Yamraj and asked how did you dare to drag the devotee in my spiritual practice?
Yamraj Mahakala tremendously trembling He said, “Lord, I am your servant.” You have entrusted me with an inexhaustible task of killing life.
